Is this less crowded than Gràcia's festival?

Yes, significantly. Sants runs right after Gràcia and has the same format, but it's far more neighborhood-focused and much less touristy. You can move around and see things without getting stuck in a wall of people. If you went to Gràcia and found it overwhelming, Sants is the better bet.

What should we go for if we have young kids?

The kids' programming and the gegants parades are the main draws. The decorated streets are fun to walk around and spot, and there's usually food and activities set up on the main streets. The correfoc on Saturday, August 29 gets loud and intense once the adult run sets off from Plaça d'Osca at 9:30pm, but the correfoc infantil at 6:30pm from the jardins de Can Mantega gives your crew sparks without the full chaos, with a kids' devils workshop from 6pm.

How do we get there by metro?

Plaça de Sants (L1 red line or L5 blue line) drops you right in the middle of the decorated streets. Sants Estació (L3 green line or L5 blue line) is about a 10-minute walk away and handy if you're coming in by train. From either stop the neighborhood is easy to walk once you're in.

Festa Major de Sants is the neighborhood's answer to Gràcia: eleven streets and squares transformed by their own neighbors into walk-through worlds, this year including a Ratatouille street, a mad laboratory and a recreation of the old Montjuïc race circuit. Around the decorated streets the festa layers on the full Catalan repertoire, gegants parades, castellers building human towers, sardanes, community meals and a proper kids' program, capped by a child-scale fire run and a closing fireworks show over the park. It stays smaller and more local than Gràcia's festival, which is exactly what makes it easier with kids.
