When are the fairs in 2026?

Arbúcies has posted Sunday, December 6, 2026. The others have not posted 2026 dates yet. In 2025 Arbúcies ran Dec 6 and 7, Lavern was Dec 8, Mura ran Dec 6 to Jan 6, Moià was Dec 21, Solsona was Dec 6 and Olot's Christmas fair ran Dec 6 to 8.

Do we need to sign up for a Tió hunt?

Lavern's hunt is free; families going for the first time are asked to email nadalalavern@gmail.com beforehand so the organizers can explain how it works. Arbúcies posts its full program in November, including how the forest hunt runs.

Is it good for toddlers?

Yes. It is gentle: stalls, a short walk in the woods and hands-on decorating. Forest paths can be muddy, so boots and a baby carrier beat a stroller for the hunt itself.

Signs, songs and announcements are in Catalan, but decorating and hunting need no words. Learning the Tió song at home first makes the day more fun.

Are there bigger fairs farther away?

Solsona, about 1h30 by car, holds one of the biggest Tió fairs, with an exhibition of Tiós in the cathedral cloister (Dec 6 in 2025). In Olot, about 1h40 away, the Christmas fair ends on Dec 8 with a giant Tió dancing through the streets at 4:30pm.

About

The Tió, or Caga Tió, is the Catalan Christmas log, with a painted smiling face, a red barretina hat and a blanket to keep it warm. Tió fairs celebrate the tradition with stalls full of logs of every size, workshops to decorate your own, and in some villages a hunt through the woods to find one to take home.
